On 1^st November 2020, it was the 10th anniversary of me joining and taking over the ownership of Onions & Davies from the previous owners, Roger Gomersall and Derrick Balsom.

At that time, I had been a partner of two medium to large sized regional law firms, and I had been practising Private Client law for over 16 years. I therefore knew my area of law and I was familiar with running a legal practice. As a result, I naively assumed that taking on a small, local practice would not be too challenging. In fact, the last 10 years have been a roller coaster of successes and challenges, stress and enjoyment, sleepless nights and times for celebration.

I am trained to advise clients about the quickest and most efficient way to administer an estate, or the best ways to save a client tens of thousands of pounds of inheritance tax, or protect their home from being taken to pay for care fees. It is through experience that I have also learned to clear wasps nests, deal with floods, break-ins and heating failure, cope with personnel crises, and survive through a global pandemic!

A lot of it has been learning on the job, but so much more has been having the right people to support me. My network of professional contacts has been solid and dependable. The people in Market Drayton and the surrounding area have been a pleasure to work with and for, and my staff/colleagues have been hard-working and dedicated, and truly put client care and the success of the practice first.

I would like to thank my staff/colleagues for their support, the people who recommend us and refer work to us for their belief in the services we provide, my family for their love and encouragement, and our clients for entrusting us with their business.

My hair is greyer than in 2010, and my stress lines are deeper, but, overall, I have enjoyed being at the helm of Onions & Davies. I hope to be able to write the same in another 10 years’ time.
